The Founder's Guide to Cross-Platform Repurposing
5 min read
Repurposing isn't reposting. It's translating the same idea into the format each platform rewards. Here's the field guide.
The source: one short-form video
Everything starts from a single 30–60 second video. Once it performs on TikTok or Reels, it's a proven idea and proven ideas are what you repurpose.
TikTok → Instagram Reels
- What changes: caption (slightly more professional), cover frame, hashtags, posting time.
- What stays: the video itself.
- Effort: low. Same asset, repackaged.
Video → LinkedIn
- What changes: everything. LinkedIn doesn't reward raw video reposts.
- What to do: turn the video's thesis into a 4–6 line text post, embed the video, or build a carousel if the idea is list-shaped.
- Why: LinkedIn rewards text-led depth. The video is proof; the text is the content.
- Effort: medium. The idea is done; you're writing the LinkedIn-native version.
Video → X
- What changes: length and format. X wants sharp, short, real-time.
- What to do: distill the core take into a single post, or a 3–5 post thread if the idea has steps.
- Why: X rewards directness and conversation. The video's opinion becomes a post that invites replies.
- Effort: low. The take is already written; you're trimming.
The rule that makes it work
Repurpose the winners, not everything. Repurposing 30 videos blindly is a waste. Repurposing the 5 that proved they resonated is high-leverage. The data tells you which ideas earned the translation effort.
The system
A founder doing this manually is running four jobs. A distribution system identifies the winners and produces the translations the founder records once, the system makes them everywhere.
That's cross-platform repurposing: one idea, four audiences, one recording session.
