Writing Scripts That Sound Like You, Not a Marketer
4 min read
The fastest way to ruin founder content is to hand the script to a marketer. It comes back polished, professional, and completely unrecognizable. Audiences smell it instantly.
The sound-like-you test
A good founder script passes one test: if a friend who knows you read it out loud, would you cringe? If yes, it's wrong. If it sounds like something you'd actually say, it's right.
How we write them
- Start from your words. The script is built from your extracted POV, not invented by a copywriter.
- Keep the rough edges. The half-finished thought, the casual phrasing that's what makes it human.
- Cut the marketing words. "Leverage," "synergy," "revolutionize" gone. If you wouldn't say it in a meeting, it's not in the script.
- Lead with the hook, not the brand. The first three seconds earn the next thirty.
The structure
A short-form script is: hook → tension → your take → resolution. The hook earns attention, the tension holds it, your take makes it yours, the resolution makes it shareable.
Why this works
People follow people, not brands. A script that sounds like a founder builds a founder's brand. A script that sounds like marketing builds nothing because nobody follows a press release.
